Conceptualization of Purpose and Objectives
During biblical times when the nation of Israel was under the leadership of Judges, the people
appealed to Prophet Samuel to give them a king like other nations. Samuel was offended by
their demands. But God told him, “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you
they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king” (1 Samuel 8:7).
The history of the Northern Kingdom of Israel is replete with diabolical, wicked kings that
ultimately led to their demise. They received the kind of kings after their evil hearts.
We are currently going to the polls to elect a President of the United States. As people of faith,
we want God’s leadership and a leader after God’s own heart, rather than what we deserve as a
nation. Our sins as a nation deserve God’s wrath; however, the Bible promises, “The Lord our
God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against Him” (Daniel 9:9, NIV).
As Christians, we come before God with a repentant heart asking the Lord to be merciful to
America and grant us a leader of His choosing and not according to the abomination of our
To actualize the command of God in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, who are called by my
name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then
I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
The Vigil will be divided into three parts: Praying, Teaching, and Preaching.
Praying: Prayer warriors will intercede on behalf of America.
Teaching: In 2 Chronicles 7:14, there are four mandates and three promises
from God. The teaching aspect will focus on the four commands: “If my people,
who are called by my name,” (1) “will humble themselves” (2) “pray” (3) “seek
my face and,” (4) “turn from their wicked ways.” Four teachers/preachers will
teach on the four commands.
Preaching: Three preachers will exalt God’s promises (1) “Then I will hear from
heaven, and” (2) “I will forgive their sin and” (3) “will heal their land.”
